Default Rpm gauge

I put on a new rpm gauge and it does not work. Is there something that needs to be replaced on the engine?

Default Rpm

I installed one a few years ago on my set up and on the back of the gage it has a switch that can be set to various numbers (4, 6 or 8 I think.) Those numbers are not the # of cylinders you have but the amount of (stator magnets?) on your motor. Find out how many of those you have in your motor and set that switch on the back of the RPM gage to that number. Again, it's not the amount of cylinders you have that the switch is set at. I don't remember exactly what it is if it's the amount of coils or stator magnet/coils or what.
Does the needle move at all.....or bounce around and read inaccurate?
