Default 2011 115 etec

serial #05308465
model #E115DPLII
A friend and I were both buying the same exact boats rigged idencally!(war eagle predators)
orgianally I was going to pruchase a F115 Yamaha and long story short the dealer and along with Evinrudes DVD's and website I went with the E-tec and my friend bought the Yamaha.

as of now I am very dissapointed in my purchase with the e-tec.I was convinced that the etec would out perform or at least keep up with the yamaha according to the dealer and Evinrudes website.maybe my gullibility!
I am running a viper 13 7/8x 19 ss prop.with a full tank of fuel and all of my fishing gear and I alone in the boat can barely at times get the engine within operating RPM range of 5500 to 6000 with only a 19" prop.the boats max HP rating is a 115.the engine heigth is correct! (cavitation plate just above water surface)
this engine should be able to turn at least a 21" pitch and I don't think it's going to come close!!

here's what tops this off.my friends Yamaha(exact same boat) runs a Laser II 13.5x21 and can get 6000rpm's easily and gets a little over 50mph on gps with a heavier motor.our hole shots are the same but after that he walks away with ease.to keep up with him he has to back down to 5000rpms and me at WOT!!we made a 65 mile trip in serperate boats following each other and fishing for crappie and he got nearly 50% better fuel economy!!

there's got to be something wrong.there shouldn't in my mind be that much difference between these 2 engines even though one's a 2 stroke and one's a 4 stroke!
I'd like to try other props but I know if I go to a higher pitch this would create more problems.I feel this motor should be able to turn a 21" pitch for a rather light boat for fresh water fishing only with no problems!!just for the heckof it I'm going to try a quicksilver lightspeed 13 7/8x21 just to see what happens.it's the same as the Laser II but will fit an e-tec!

I had the boat since the beggining of June and have other Evinrude engines in the past with no issues.I just want to feel good about my purchase and get the performance out of this 2stroke motor that's touted!!so far unseen!!

any suggestions?

I suggest taking it back to the dealer. As for the comparison between Yamaha 4strokes and the E-Tec, Yamaha is recommended everytime. As you have notice the 4strokes provide great torque, reliability and overall performance, while still remaining relatively light.
