Default counter rotating

I have just installed a used lower unit on my 55hp evinrude and when I put it in the water for a test I put the controls in forward the boat went astern and when I put the controls in reverse the boat went forward. Did they make a counter rotating lower unit for a 55 Horsepower Evinrude?? If so how do I solve this problem??

***! If indeed you found a counter-rotating 55 that would be unusual. Find a counter thrust propellor? Some old Mercury's had a shift system that rotated the selector, and if you got that 180 degrees off it would do what yours is doing but if yours is push-pull, you would have to do something in the control handle ***embly to fix it. Weird.
