225 HO 2004 random overheat

I have been chasing a bug for some time. My 225 will shut down randomly at higher speeds 5000 rpm+. get check engine light. computer reads emm overheat. Cleared all tubes, hoses excetera. Very good mechanic working on it and we can't figure it out. any thoughts? At this point we would need to go into the powerhead to look for blockage/restriction. Computer tests OK not heating up.
Any help on this mystery will be welcomed.
