Default 1973 9.5 evinrude, no spark

my 9.5 evinrude spent an hour under water this fall and i've been unable to get it to start since. 2 weeks before it took a swim i'd replaced the points, coils and condencors(sp), and after the swim i removed and cleaned the carb and replaced the spark plugs. even tried using quickstart pulling it over and nothing. i suspect it's not getting spark. would an hour under water ruin my bran new points, coils etc? any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreceated. thanks

It is possible that the points and condensor have been compromised. I recommend at minimum througly cleaning and recapping the points. You should also verify that there is no spark.

i've had the plugs unscrewed but connected, while pulling over the motor and can't see a spark. it'll blow my voltage meter if i hook it up. is there another way to test other than visually or by touch? lol

visibly is the easiest, you can also check spark by hooking up a timing light. The Timing light will only work if the cylinder its connected to has spark.
