Evinrude 75hp 1975-1980/Problem w/Electric Starter

Hello guys,

I am a proud owner of a "cl***ic" -not to say old, from the 80´s jaja- outboard 75hp Evinrude/Johnson.

I have special sentiment to it, so my daughters since we have rebuilt the boat few years ago........) and plus, it was doing the job find until I got some problems with the ignition system.

NOTE/Disclosure: I am a high motivated nuvie on marine mechanics, I have performed some basic PM such as solenoid and fuses changes. I live in Mexico City.

The symptom: Not enough torque on the drive ***y of the electric starter. This is, whenever I try to start the engine, the drive ***y does move but not strong enough to put the flywheel ***y of the ignition system to fly.

I have started the diagnosis procedure, first I checked the battery and fuses, nothing weird with them.

Now, I am pointing to the electric starter as the probable failure cause. My quest is to dismount the electric starter to perform some CM on it. On the original parts catalog, there is no information on how to perform my quest (see below please), since it is not a service manual.
For further reference on the model of the engine I have, is one of the above, since the manual states so.

Evinrude E75ERCSA and E75ERLCSA

If pushed, I will say it is the E75ERLCSA since I know that 15´´ and 20´´ TRANSFOM (the lenght of the leg) and I know that my baby is a long leg (20´´) 75ponny

My request to all of you experts is to provide me with your advice, ideas, resources (diagrams, blogs, websites) to accomplish my quest and or some other possible faulty causes and how to perform them in order to have my Lightning McQueen up and running again not to mention the joy of my 5 and 2 oldies when they find out that “daddy” was able to fix their dear Lightning.

If you have checked the battery and all the cables to make sure the starter is getting all the juice it requires, then I would recommend changing the starter. As a starter begins to go bad it will drag, requiring more and more power from the battery until the battery cannot supply it enough power. There is no accurate way to test the starter. Sometimes dismounted the starter will work fine but not when mounted. Hope this helps, good luck
