I just replaced the water pump in my 9.9 and now its making a strange whine that sounds kind of like a gear drive timing set on a v8 engine. it sounds like its coming from the top of the motor but i didn't touch anything up there. can anybody tell me what its doing.
It very hard to say without being able to hear it. Be sure that nothing is rubbing the flywheel. When you reinstalled the lower unit, did you make sure to line the drive shaft up properly or just tightened it into place. I am asking cause if you did not line up the shaft and tightened, maybe it put excessive pressure on the crankshaft.
