8 HP 4 stroke starter?

I would like to add an electric start to my 2004 8hp 4 stroke.

Does anyone have a part number and/or lead on where to buy one at a reasonable cost.

Also, will I need a solenoid or can I connect the starter direct to the battery via an inline push button switch?

what is the model number of your evinrude? There shows to be an electric start kit for the 4stroke 8/9.9hp 2001-2004, part number 0449530 (I recommend verifying first). This includes everything to convert to electric start.

The motor is actually a Johnson. The ID tag has all the numbers deleted. It looks like some sort of computer machine scribbled out all the numbers on the tag. Is there any other locations where I could find the model number?

I am uncertain on BRP (Johnson/Evinrude), however that kit should be the part you are looking for. Unfortunately it looks like the conversion kit is no longer available.

Yes, Eletric Start Conversion Kit was discontinued. I am not showing another available. You might can find the kit in someone's inventory, will need to call around.
