1979 Evinrude 115

Can anyone tell me for sure that lower units from 1978 to 1991 will work with my outboard ? I have been told yes more than no but the ones who say no say the driveshaft splines are different. This is for a 115 evinrude model # 115999R 13 spine prop shaft.
