63 starflight 75hp wont go into forward gear

for the past couple of weeks my 63 starflight has been comming out of gear while i have been in gear. the other day it came out of gear and will not go back in. it will go into neutral and reverse. not too long ago i got a hole in my lower unit and all the oil came out. i took it out of water and repaired the hole and put new fluid in the lower unit. it seemed to be ok, but now it will not go into forward gear. I dont think i would be able to find parts to this 1963 anywhere so am i screwed?

l aslo i have a 60 starflite i cant get to run. what does yours have for compression. i have been told to check it but dont know what a good compression is.
