  • 1989 40HP - Rapid short pulse alarm but VRO has been removed for about 10 years

1989 40hp engine on a pontoon. Had engine rebuilt in 2010 and they removed VRO. Engine has been running well with oil/gas mix since then. It ran fine getting it out of storage and a couple of times this year. Then on 4th of July trip (of course) the alarm beeps rapidly (not solid as in overheating). Then manual says "No oil flow from VRO pump". What else could be causing this issue? The alarm starts as soon as the key goes to run, and before the engine starts. I did run the boat and the engine seems to be running fine. Faulty alarm? Any suggestions on what to check?

    Thanks in advance!

Remove the TAN wire from the horn when it's beeping (I a$$ume every other second?). If the beeping continues with that wire removed... replace the horn.

If the beeping stops instantly when you remove that wire, you have something going wrong with whatever sensors that Tan wire is attached to... in which case disconnect the sensor, one at a time until the beeping stops which will reveal the offending sensor.
