  • 1980 25hp evinrude water in the gear case

Hey I have a 1980 25hp evinrude and after using the gear case oil is milky. I changed the oil and tried testing the lower seal by the prop by just sub merging the motor up to the top of the prop then put the motor in gear and spun the prop manually to try and see if it leaked. Then I hooked a water muff up to the intake and ran the motor and the oil went milky. I'm ***uming its the drive shaft seal under the impeller. I was wondering if that would be a logical ***umption and if so how hard is it to replace?

Once the oil turns milky it take several oil changes to clear up but if it is getting water in it best to replace all the seals, prop shaft seals, drive shaft seals and shift rod seals.

      thanks for the advice.
can I replace the seals at home, or will it require special seal pullers/setters that would require a mechanic
