  • 1993 140 Hp Issue

Hi folks. I am new and this is my first post. I have a 25ft Dusky with twin '93 Evinrude 140's. One engine is giving me trouble. I have a hard time cranking it..wont idle..I can get it cranked if I dry out the plugs, put it in neutral and rev it up a bit..but the minute I put it into gear it dies/maybe floods out..???. Any thoughts or sugestions?

    Thanks!

Sounds like you need to remove and repair your carburetors. They are flooding over. Be sure to verify every air/fuel p***age is clear from debri.

        carbs...not

Well I rebuilt two carbs today and checked the other two..they were crystal clean..like brand new clean. No love. Same problem..hard to start..have to throttle up..dies and cannot put in gear without loosing it.

Someone suggested reed valves? My other idea is maybe fuel pump or fuel lines. Fuel lines being easiest to rule out..as my boat has two engines..I could just switch them and test real quick. If it runs..I guess fuel lines..if not move on....?????

If there is a bad reed, fuel would spray out of the throat of the carburetor. Did you adjust the carburetor? (air/fuel and idle) Yes you can test the fuel lines that way. Fuel pump can be a problem. Check to make sure your carburetors are filling with fuel.

            Link and Sync

The we finally narrowed it down to a link and sync issue..which looks pretty complicated..might have to bite the bullet on this one and go ahead with a mechanic..
