  • Shocked by Evinrude Customer Service!! Is there any way around this!

    Hi all,

We bought a brand new Evinrude 25hp 2 stroke E-Tech outboard 3 weeks ago today to use with our tender for our sailing boat. We can't have put more than 2 hours time on it and it has shut itself down showing us a sensor error on the light panel.

The nearest dealer is over 60 miles away by sea and then inland another 20 miles! The ONLY way to get this engine fixed is for us to take it to the dealer ourselves which is going to cost us in time, as we have to go out of our way, money on getting to our destination, we can't then anchor as we have no tender so we have to pay over $200 on a slip (***uming it's a one day fix), we then have to hire a crane to lift it and hire a car. My guestimate is it'll cost us around $400 to get this brand new outboard to a dealer so he can plug it into a computer and tell us what is wrong with it.

We are currently on a world cruise and will rarely be within 100 miles of a dealer. If this is the only way to deal with these engines when they have issues this 'brand new top of the range fantastic outboard' is as useful as a chocolate tea pot to us.

Has anyone had similar issues, I spoke to customer services and they were plain rude saying it wasn't their problem that the engine broke down so far from a dealer, we shouldn't have taken it here were his exact words!

    shocked and appalled!

    Advice would be fantastic!

    Thanks

    Karen

You might contact the closest dealer directly. Many dealers offer a convenient option called service call. This is when the dealer actually goes out to the customer in order to repair their product.
