  • New Key Switch Installed but......

I just installed a new key switch for my Evinrude motor. Now when I turn the key to the run position, the starter starts and does not stop until I turn the key off. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is? Clearly it is electrical but I am not sure what to do with it next. I am also a novice at this so I may have wired something incorrectly but am not sure what it is.

    Thanks

Have the start circuit wire on wrong terminal of key switch, yellow/red wire should be on "S" terminal.

Need to get some advice on wiring

I have a 1974 Evinrude Sizzler 50hp - the old ignition key switch was missing the key. I put a new ignition key switch in. I am not getting spark back by the plugs. I am not certain that the switch is wired correctly and can not make out most of the wire colors. I have a red with purple stripe wire and a couple of clusters of what looks to be 2 black wires and a purple wire and another wire I can't see anything but black on - can anyone please tell me where the wires are supposed to connect to and what terminals are what on the switch? I can't even make out the markings on the back of the switch. It has 5 terminals and one is larger than the other 4. I would really like to find a diagram of the switch and any wiring details would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

disconnet Black/yellow wire from switch to see if have fire at plugs.
If have Evinrude switch then should have 2 "M" terminals on switch, black/yellow wire goes to one and black wire goes to other.

does anyone know what posts are what

on a 5 post key switch for a 1974 evinrude sizzler 50hp - all the wires are very black and I can not make out the back of the switch it has 4 smaller prongs and one longer one that follows the shape of the switch. Basically I am trying to trace the wires and need to know what goes where on the switch.

            little wiring help here please

I have been able to identify the colors of the wires on my 1974 Evirude 50 Sizzler. I have a red w/ purple stripe, a black with yellow stripe, 2 purple, and 2 black - I have a 5 post switch - what goes where? The starter engages, and spins the flywheel but I do not have spark and am not certain the key switch is connected properly

              Red to B terminal
              Purple to A terminal
              Blue to C terminal
              Yellow to S terminal
              Blacks to M terminal
              Black/yellow to other M terminal
If switch doesn't have terminals marked then must be an aftermarket switch then would have to remove switch and test with with ohm meter to identify each terminal.

definitely sounds like a mix up of wires
