  • 99 fitch need help

Okay so a few weeks ago I had the boat out and it was running fine. Came up to the dock and throttled back and engine idled for 1 minute approx and died. It will crank but not start. Did some trouble shooting and found the ecu was not Receiving voltage which was not allowing the fuel pump to turn on. So I sent the ecu to dfi technologies. They came back and said that the ecu was no repairable. So I got another ecu. Same part number and off another 98 150 fitch. I plugged it in and now fuel pump cycles for 10 seconds. Again motor will crank but not start. I checked air gap on crankshaft sensor it is within limits. When I advance the throttle the check engine light comes on. I checked codes manually but there are no codes. I need help bad.....

    Test the stator output voltage.

mark since it is firing and runs it is probably voltage issue not enough to fire injectors did you get my PM

I have checked all voltage. I am going to check spark tomorrow. Trying to get the software hooked up but it keeps telling me that I have a bootsrap installed blocking connection. I did get your message andy and I responded.

when the motor is running it takes 26 volts to fire the injectors what version ficht do you have does it have an ECU or an EMM some gen 3 powerheads had EMMs with regulator/
          rect. built in computer

i have the 98 intruder 150. I believe its the ECU. the regulator rect is under the ecu.

oh ok inyour original post you say it is a 99 all 98 models have ECUs unless they were replaced by factory with a fully dressed unit

So was able to get the motor cranking. Checked spark and I have no spark. Which I would ***ume the injectors are not firing either. How can I test the neutral safety switch. The emergency kill switch is working.

I tested the neutral safety switch. Its good. The emergency kill is good. I tested the capacitor and its supposed to bleed of voltage on fuse 5 when the key is turned off.It does. Tested the stator and rectifier its all good. So its seems to me that it has to be in ecu. I try and hook up to my diagnostic software but it is not allowing me telling me that either turn the key on. Which it is. Pin7 of j1 is grounded. Not sure what that is or where. Read on some other forums on this and the comm is correct and I have performed a loopback test which is good. The cable is an envirude cable with a serial to usb harness. I believe the software is getting to the ecu but the ecu is not transmitting back. Any suggestions.

I think you answered your question by yourself( bad ecu) I have one on a running but blown engine will sell complete wiring harness ECU and stator , and rectifier together for $950.00 or ECU by itself for $650.00

I sent the ECU off to DFI. They called and stated that this ecu was bad as well. SO now I am trying to get my money back but have already ordered another ecu. Thank Anyways andy.

Okay so I stuck another ecu in and the engine fired off and ran for about 30 seconds. Ran very rough and then died. Now the same result. Just cranking no start. I can hear the injectors snapping. But I am going to have to check again for spark. Changed spark plugs with new ones. Still cant load the diagnostic software. So its either spark or no fuel. What does everyone think

ok so have you got a model # because if this motor is actually 98 vintage with ECU it could have a power pak and that could be your problem and why it has been eating computers

Yes I believe it does have the power pack which is behind the coils. Boats.net shows it as a ignition module. I am thinking it as well. I am going to check spark and make sure my float on the circulation pump is not gummed up.

Okay so I performed a spark test. No spark. Was able to get the software to hook up and tested all injectors they tested fine. Tested all spark. No spark. So I ordered the power pack today. I hope this works. Once I get it and have spark I will check timing.
