  • 1992 evinrude 175hp altitude problems

    Hi,

I just bought a 19 ft boat with a 1992 outboard evinrude motor and brought it to a place that is 6000ft over the sea level. It works beautifull until I want to gain speed. as soon as I start acelerating it stals. it wonŽt even plane. I noticed some fuel coming out of the carburetors.

I know that the altitude is the problem, and I been told that I should change the propeller or get smaller fuel sprayers.

    Does this sound right?
if not, do you have any sugestions?
is there anything to regulate the fuel to compensate altitude?

    I hope you can help!!!!!

Yes may have to change props and possible rejet carbs but carbs shouldn't be leaking, they may need to be cleaned as well. If there are local dealers in that area consult them on what changes they have been making to compensate for the altitude.

      Problem solved

      Thank you for the advise.

I replaced the propeller from a 14.5 X 24 for a 14.25 x 21, this took care of the main problem, but the boat was still taking too long to plane, so I went ahead and bought a a sting ray XPRIII hydrofoil stabilizer, and now I have what I want. works beautifull.

Working the carbs out or changing jets was in my mind, but it was also going to be my last option. Now I can tell you that I am glad I did it this way, because I didnŽt touch the carbs at all, and I know I will be covered anywhere just by changing props.

If you go out in different lakes, it will be a good advise to have two propellers for different altitudes.

IŽll tell U about fishing later )
