  • Evinrude electric starter bracket.

I just searched thru 61 pages of 22 threads and didn’t even come close to finding an answer to my problem which is finding a starter bracket that will fit my 1969 Fastwin 18hp motor. I want to convert to electric start. Model is 18902E. The kit from Evinrude is 563 dollars. I paid 475 for the motor. The kit is out of the question. Dealers have given me three part numbers of brackets that will fit: 0317328 or 126050 or 0126256. I have a picture that I found on the internet of the exact same motor with an electric starter bracket mounted on it that is not any of these numbers. The parts “expert” looked at the picture and said it would not fit my motor! I showed the picture to another marine mechanic and he said it should fit, and the bracket was common. I don’t want to buy a problem; however, I do want to convert to electric start. Many postings on Ebay show starter brackets that have come off 40hp engines and they say they will work on 15 hp 20 hp, 25hp, 30hp and of course 40hp. The dealers say they won’t and that I must have the correct part. Are there a range of brackets that will convert to my motor either straight up or with a little modification? All the holes on the brackets seem to be the same. The solenoid I would like to mount on or near the bracket for maintenance sake. I’m still looking. If anyone has the part I’m willing to purchase at a fair price.

In my 1989 Accessory book (Yes, I save string too), the starter bracket is listed as 308482 and is superseded up to 0126256.

The last listing I see of it is in the 2004 price book as roughly $90.00. It is not listed in my 2010 price book. The normal used price would probably be around $25.00 and should be available at some of the outboard repair shops.

    Wish you luck.

***, I am amazed. I actually got a quick response that makes sense and will save me some money. Now all I have to do is find one. Thank you so much.

I've been on the same quest for almost a year now. I've heard stories of people finding them on ebay for little of nothing, but I haven't been so lucky yet.
