  • 1995 johnson 88hp won't stop running when key is turned off

I have a 1995 Johnson 88 hp motor that keeps running when I turn the key off. I replaced the existing ignition with the same switch a Pollack 5005801 and it solved the problem for a few months but is now doing the same thing. I know the black/yellow wire is the kill wire. Would the power Pak cause this or should I be looking elsewhere?

    (Ignition Kill Circuit)
    (J. Reeves)

A Black wire (ground) should lead from the powerhead to the powerpack. There will also be a Black/Yellow wire leading from the powerpack to a raised "M" terminal of the ignition switch. To complete the circuit, there will be a Black wire from the other "M" terminal of the ignition switch to ground.

When the key is in the OFF position = The two "M" terminals are connected,. effectively shorting/killing the ignition.

When the key in ON position = The two "M" terminals are not connected and the ignition is engaged.

I will check powered and power pak tomorrow. The switch has round 6 prongs with no raised M. I verified all wires are on the correct prongs of the switch and it did work right for a couple of months but now is not.
