  • Starter wiring 1995 150hp Intruder

I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for the starter in my boat. I think I have it hooked up wrong. Its a 1995 Evinrude Intruder 150hp. It won't start using the ignition switch, but will try to crank if I use a jump wire. But using the jump wire makes a lot of smoke and sparks when the wires connect with the starter. This boat has spent more time at the repair shop then at my house. Only got it in the water once last year and had to be towed back (that we found out was because of a hole in the fuel tank and it was half full of water)! And it did start then, but has sat for a year and now won't crank. Any help with wiring or links to some diagrams would be super helpful. Thanks

With the spark plugs removed, can you turn the engine over by hand simply by grabbing the flywheel and attempting to turn it?

The hole in the gas tank... water... wondering if you pumped that water up into the powerhead.

What do you mean by...... smoke and sparks when the wires make contact with the starter? Are you using regular heavy duty jumper cables?
