  • Mid 90's 225hp

    Hello to all. New to the forum. I acquired a mid 90's what I believe is an Evinrude 225 hp because the label on the bracket says it is, but it came with a Johnson 225 cowling. I have been trying to figure out the exact year since it might be a Frankenstein. On this particular engine, the throttle cables are on the starboard side and the fuel and electrical wires are entering the OB via the port side. Any ideas..... Thanks

    Did you check the model/serial number label on the engine. The model number structure can be referenced in a evinrude/Johnson service manual and reveals year of manufacture, hp, E =evinrude, J = Johnson, and such.

      Check the transom brackets and the visible portion of the steering swivel bracket for a small plate or decal that would have the model and serial number..... also on the powerhead, search for a quarter size core plug (Looks like a small freeze out plug) that may have those numbers.

        Thanks guys, I did check the label but because the cowling it had was from a 225hp and the transom bracket tag says it is a 200, I don't know what to believe.

        The tag says the following:

        Mod no: E200TXETF
        SER NO: G 03501082

        FREEZE PLUG NO: G3556653

        THE FLYWHEEL HAS THE DATE OF 06/20/1998

        So, now you can see my dilemma.

          E200TXETF = 1993 200hp Evinriude

          True it is that it could be a mixture of parts resulting in some other horsepower but unfortunately there is no way we could determine what.

            I have been replacing the old connectors and I am stumped at a couple things. First, I know the black circle thing is the warning buzzer that sounds when you turn the key on the ignition, but I need to replace and do not know with which type. Second there is a wire that is spliced to a white wire connected by a male female coupling connector. Need to know what that wire is for.

            Please see pics for reference.

              In the third and forth picture, the wire with the blue connector is the wire I have no idea what is purpose is for. Any help would be appreciated.
