  • 93 8 HP Yachtwin driveshaft stuck

Well, my desire to resurrect this outboard is dwindling and becoming more and more difficult. Wanted to pull the lower unit off (shifts fine, turns freely) to check and or replace impeller. Struggled to finally get the lower unit loose (saltwater use) and finally it pulled free and off. The long shift rod came with it but the driveshaft remained connected to the powerhead. The lower unit is in good shape, but I can't replace the impeller without pulling the driveshaft free from the powerhead. Tried putting vicegrips on it and hammering, but no help. The driveshaft turns freely but will not come out. Any suggestions on how to remove it? Thanks .......

If it moves up and down slightly, I'd suspect there is a pin through the D/S near the top that keeps pressure on a seal a$$embly. If so, the pin need to be aligned with a slot to allow it to drop.

If on the other hand, that shaft is frozen in the crankshaft splines due to someones neglect to grease the splines, install a O Ring, whatever... you can grab the D/S with vice grips on a non-bearing area and tap the shaft off. The alternative would be to remove the powerhead with the shaft so as to workbench it as needed.

Thanks for the input Joe. Shaft will not move at all up or down. Even with persuasion. Tried clamping vice grips on it and beating it off. No budge. It seems like it is welded into the powerhead. I will proceed with the take down to reveal all. Unfortunately this motor has turned into a parts motor.
Sad, but it is worth more dead than alive. I tried
