    10/17/17 9 am est Replaced thermostat and impeller, but the motor still overheats -mechanism under the flywheel is gaulded and won't let me advance timing.

    A$$uming that your work is not flawed in any manner, that would leave the following to be checked:

    Also a$$uming that you're aware that the water must be higher than the water pump if you're using a barrel, large trash can, whatever. The water pump is NOT self priming and if the water level is below the water pump, the pump will not function!

    * The thermostat of course.

    * The head gaskets. A slight leakage here would allow the combustion enter the water p***age areas, creating a standstill..... the water trying to come up, the combustion power going down... and where the two meet, there would be a stalemate!
