High spray

I put a second hand 9.9 Suzuki on a 14ft aluminum boat and when I open it up a high spray comes up on both sides of the motor making a big V shape off the back of the boat. I have never seen this before - is that supposed to be happening or is there a problem?

That is the way the motor is cutting into the water. You can try raising the motor.
