  • How to REPLACE/CLEAN exhaust idle valve

over the past 2 years and many hours reading i am convinced that the problem we are having with starting our Etec 115hp evinrude has to do with the exhaust idle valve not opening and forcing the exhaust thru the prop at startup. After sitting in the lake for overnight starting is almost impossible/stalls unless the engine is first tilted and allowed to drain. Started while tilted and immediatly lowered.

my question is this.. i am very mechanical and work on many engines outboards etc, but have never tackled anything along this line. how big a job is it, and where is the valve that may be stuck and need cleaning/replacing.

    thanks,
    jim

Not a hard job unless corroded from salt then can be a problem.
