  • replace upper water tube grommet

My neighbor gave me a 1962 MFG boat with a 1980 35 HP Evinrude motor model #E35ELCSM serial # E0004859 on it. Motor has not run in 5 years plus. Had to rewire the motor. (no problem) Put gas in the tank and the motor started right up. Water pump no good. Pulled gear case off. ( took over 3 hrs to get it down) Talk about things being rusted in. My problem is I found that where the water tube connects to the power head the grommet (part # 0322078) is shot. Water tube just falls out. I think it's suppose to snap in like it does at the water punp. Is the only way to replace this grommet is to remove the power head. Removing starter, ignition coils and carb. Everthing is rusted. Are there any short cuts to do this job,

    Thank You
    John

Some of older motor the water tube just pushed up into grommet. Yes the engine would have to be removed to replace upper grommet.
