6hp drive shaft question

I recently took my 6hp apart to change the water pump impeller and bent the roll pin at the top of the drive shaft. What purpose does this roll pin serve?

Don't know what year model you have but should hold spring up, the pin is replaceable.

Thanks for the reply. Motor is a 1978 or close to it. Is the spring to keep the shaft tensioned downward, or for tension upward on the seal or some other reason?

I will get a new pin.
