  • Evinrude V6 150hp 1991 overheat alarm

    Hi all,
looking for a little help here. I have a 1991 V6 Evinrude 150hp and the overheat alarm sounds when I go full throttle after running for less than 5 mins. I know the engine is not hot as I can hold my hand on the heads without feeling any heat. I don't feel I have a fuel restriction as I am still able to go full throttle but the alarm will sound when over 4500RPM. If I keep the throttle at 3500RPM the alarm never sounds.
    Thanks

Test the temp sensors to see if reading correctly.

I have a 1991 115 hp V6. I am having the same problem. I hade a boat shop replace the VRO pump and the impeller. Running at low RPM for 10 to 20 min then going up to 3500 makes the alarm sound. I am getting a steady tone, no beeps at all. Since oil and temp seem to be the only alarms on my engine (thanks to Evinrude Forms reply) I am thinking it could be a sensor inside the oil tank.

      Any comments are appreciated.
