I have a johnson 40hp j40tlcec. Has been to mechanic to get running. I bought it used not running. After getting it back and running for the first time I noticed the volt gauge on both the instrument panel and the fish finder both would only read 12.1 volts at idle and 12.3 at half throttle and above. If I turn on anything small even the little nav lights it drops to 11.7. Took back to mechanic questioning this. He put in a new rectifier and the piece under the flywheel. Sorry forget the name. Still the same. Has new battery also. He tells me that system only puts out 3 amps and everything is in spec. I still think with no load it should be at 13 or 14 and not drop with just the nav lights. Am I crazy or is that the way it works ?
