I'm a new user that just purchased a used boat with a 2004 150hp DI model E150FPSXR motor. The tach doesn't work, it appears to be stuck at around 1k rpm. All the system check lights seem to be okay. I checked the power at the battery and at the back of the tach in the way the service manual showed and everything checks out okay. I couldn't check the wire from the EMM to the tach because I don't have the proper meter. I'm thinking the tach is bad but I'm not sure. Any help from anyone will be appreciated. Also, I found a used tach on ebay that came from a 2001 115 hp Evinrude. Anyone know if this would be compatible with my 150hp?

My Tach Experience
Had the same problem. It was the rectifier. seems the tach read pulses from the Charge coils when the rectifier goes the tach don't get the pulses. Had it happen on two different engines. A '87 model 70 hp. & a '78 model 115. Hope this helps. by the way, Evinrude dealers get around $70 for the rectifier. NAPA auto parts get around $35.
