Primer soleniod

Have a 1992 evinrude 88 hp. The motor would only run pushing the choke in. We drained the float bowls. Sprayed the carbs with carb cleaner. Moved the primer over on the soleniod. It runs better but can't close the primer a the way. Just curious what would cause this and can it run like that. The boat has been used minimal last few years. We replaced the gas with new gas.

Sounds like carbs should be cleaned.

But you can try running an additive in fuel that may clean carbs more, many additives on market, but Seafoam seems to be worth the money (Walmart - under $7/can).
