No drive on 28 SPL evinrude

I've got a 1991- 28spl evinrude. I was on the lake and stopped to fish for a while and then when I started I backed up and went to forward and lost all drive ( forward and reverse ) I checked for a shear pin but this motor doesn't have one. What could it be? I'm in need of some info. Please.

If you still have the propeller, remove the shift cable and shift directly at the engine shift linkage. If still no shift action... suspect a broken driveshaft. Let us know what you find.

Well I got the foot off and low and behold its just the shift linkage coupler. About a 20 dollar fix. Thanks Joe for your input
