OMC's code was/is the word INTRODUCES whereas each letter stands for a number ie.... I=1, N=2,T=3, etc etc.

The "EU" within your engine's model number = "97"... 1997

J = Johnson
50 = 50 Horsepower
T = Power Tilt Trim
L = Long Shaft (20")
E = 9
U = 7
C = Factory code of no consequence
