I just bought a 1988 Evenrude powered pontoon. When I launched it Friday, I had nothing above high trolling speed in forward. I had high rpms in neutral, and reverse. I could get a little more horsepower by choking the engine about1/4 in forward. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dave

Having to choke it to keep running is a sign of starving for fuel, probably need to remove and clean carbs.

Yes, agreed... but... do check the compression and spark... should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP!Originally posted by boats.net View PostHaving to choke it to keep running is a sign of starving for fuel, probably need to remove and clean carbs.
Spark plugs removed for both tests.
